Local Rules

GRIFFITH GOLF CLUB LOCAL NEW AND RULES

AS OF 01/01/2024
(to be read in conjunction with the Rules of Golf)

1. Out of Bounds

  • All boundary fences and areas beyond any line of White pegs with Black tops, carparks and immediate paved areas of the Clubhouse and BBQ area, except the path adjacent to the 1st Tee.

2. Relief Drop Procedure for the following Local Rules 2a. 2b. 3. 4

  • The player must drop the ball, without penalty, within 1 club- length of the nearest point of relief, not nearer the hole. The ball may be cleaned when doing so.

3. Immovable Obstructions

  1. Paths – All formed paths and artificial path surfaces or part thereof.
    Note: All other paths/roads are an integral part of the course.
  2. Signage, Sand drums, Sprinklers, Distance Markers and Course Stakes.
    If the above (a. & b.) interferes with a players stance or intended swing, relief MAY be taken in accordance with Rule 24-2b. As above.
  3. Near the Green – If an Immovable Obstruction, on or within 2 club-lengths of the putting green, and within 2 club-lengths of the ball, intervenes with the line of play, relief may be taken.
    Procedure as follows –
    The ball shall be lifted and dropped NEAR AS POSSIBLE to its original position to give line of play relief, not nearer the hole & not on the green nor in a hazard.

4. Protected Areas

  • Staked Trees & Shrubs / Garden beds / Areas Signposted
    – “GUR-Play Prohibited” – are PROTECTED AREAS, and as such, if they interfere with a player’s stance or intended swing RELIEF MUST BE TAKEN in accordance with Rule 24- 2b. As above.

    PENALTY FOR BREACH OF LOCAL RULE:-
    Matchplay – Loss of Hole, Stroke play – 2 Strokes

5. Ground Under Repair – (GUR)

  • Defined by – White pegs, White line marking or signage or a wheel mark made by grounds staff vehicle.
    If GUR interferes with the players stance or intended swing, relief may be taken under Rule 16-1. As above.

6. Power Lines on 9th Fairway

  • If a players ball hits the power lines, the stroke is cancelled and the player MUST play a ball as near as possible at the spot from which the original ball was played, without penalty, in accordance with Rule 20-5.

7. Distance Measuring Devices

  • Devices or Applications that measure distance only are approved.
    Distance Markers are measured to the centre of the Green; – Blue-200, White-150, Red-100, Yellow-50.
